Sono Luminus started in 1995 when Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner, founders of Cisco Systems, decided that their expertise in digital signal processing, computational mathematics and physics would enable them to bring a new level of recording fidelity to music. The team's mission is to bring a new audio experience to the home listener through a new approach to the miking, mixing, mastering of the new digital discrete, multi-channel recording formats.

Since 1995, Sono Luminus has recorded medieval, glass, acoustic and modern instruments in solo and large orchestral performances. In addition, the Sono Luminus team has recorded solo vocalists, chant, antiphonal and traditional chorale ensembles.

The focus is on precision recording: take superb musicians set in an acoustically sympathetic space and record the performance as though the listener had the best seat in the house. "Less is more" is the philosophy that directs the entire recording process, from microphone placement to final mastering. All performances are recorded "dry", without effects added to the master session.

Our experience and experiments with technologies made possible with advances in digital recording precision, the best available microphone and preamplifier and analog-digital converters, computer-based editing, mixing and mastering systems has enabled the development of the Spheric Sound™ recording process.

The Sono Luminus staff is equally comfortable recording on location, nationally and internationally, as we are here in Virginia.
