Eddie South(1904-1962) was one of the most widely recorded jazz violinists of his time. He was truly one of the greats, and all the greats knew him-Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli, Stuff Smith, Ray Nance, Sven Asmussen, and Paul Nero. In fact, composer and violinist Paul Nero dedicated his classic jazz fiddle tune "Hot Canary" to Eddie South. Unfortunately, his name and music are not known to all violin-loving musicians, historians, and seasoned music buffs. Although he enjoyed a career as an active performer, appearing on radio, television, and even in a motion picture (Stars on Parade, 1946), Eddie South never seemed to break through the color barrier. He didn't receive the commercial success and large audiences he so deeply deserved.

Led by jazz violinist and GRAMMY nominated Jeremy Cohen, Violinjazz performs some of their favorite Eddie South pieces which span many years and phases of his career. They range from the highly romantic to the hard swinging fiddling.
