Ayreheart grew out of Ronn McFarlane's desire to write new music for the lute - the most popular instrument of the Renaissance - and to make lute and its music accessible to a wider audience. At first his compositions were conceived as solos but soon evolved into arrangements that could only be fully expressed by an ensemble. Willard Morris (colascione, string bass) and Mattias Rucht (hand percussion, drum kit) Ronn first. Then in 2013, lutenist/singer Brian Kay joined up and the band was complete. Together they perform original music as well as Renaissance music from the time of Shakespeare.
